How does BREEAM work?

The BREEAM assessment process evaluates the procurement, design, construction and operation of a development against targets that are based on performance benchmarks.

Assessments are carried out by independent, licensed assessors (or BREEAM Assessor), and developments rated and certified on a scale of Pass, Good, Very Good, Excellent and Outstanding.

It can be applied to masterplanning projects, infrastructure and buildings. It addresses a number of lifecycle stages such as New Construction, Refurbishment and In-Use.

The design teams can hire a BREEAM Expert. He will guide and advice the design team in implimenting BREEAM. His rol is also to manage the certification documentaton which will be eventually evaluated by an independent BREEAM Assessor.
